'North by Northwest' blends suspense, humor
Legendary filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock used a fine script, an able cast and his own directorial skills to create one of his best motion pictures in "North By Northwest," showing Saturday, November 21 at downtown Peoria’s nonprofit Apollo Theater.
Released 50 years ago, the classic example of Hitchcock’s use of innocent people caught up in danger beyond their control stars Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, James Mason and Leo G. Carroll.
Grant is a cocky but hapless ad exec whose tidy Madison Avenue world is torn apart when he’s the victim of mistaken identity, pursued by spies and framed for murder.
Known for memorable visuals such as a confrontation on the face of Mount Rushmore and Grant’s open-field flight from a menacing biplane, “North By Northwest” also mixes unpredictable plot twists and tongue-in-cheek humor.
