Manhattan (1979)October 10th, In Manhattan, Isac Davis is a divorced writer of TV shows unhappy with his job. His ex-wife left him to live with another woman and is writing a book about her relationship with Isac. He presently dates a seventeen years old high-school student, Tracy, who is in love with him, but he does not like her. When he meets Mary Wilkie, the mistress of his married best friend Yale, he has a crush on her. He finishes with Tracy and has an affair with Mary, affecting the lives of many persons including his own.

A romantic comedy some see as filmmaker Woody Allen's affectionate tribute to New York City, "Manhattan," is scheduled to show at downtown Peoria's nonprofit Apollo Theater on Saturday, October 10.

Reuniting "Annie Hall" co-stars Diane Keaton and Woody Allen (who also directed), "Manhattan" features Michael Murphy, Mariel Hemingway and Meryl Streep and also has in smaller roles Karen Allen, Wallace Shawn, Mark Linn-Baker and even bits and cameos from comic writer Michael O'Donoghue and politician Bella Abzug. However, the black-and-white visuals by cinematographer Gordon Willis are as stunning as the acting.

The plot is unsurprising - a restless man in a love triangle – but the circumstances of the romantic entanglements are unusual, and Allen’s smart-aleck and neurotic wit is hilarious.

It's the 30th anniversary since the release of the award-wining, 96-minute gem, which also features a fine soundtrack of George Gershwin classics.
